Sharing Hope With Haiti
1/22/2010, Lezlee Knowles
Out of a desire to share the hope of Christ with the people in Haiti, Tree of Life is partnering with Lifeline Christian Mission to provide desperately needed help in this time of crisis.
Lifeline Christian Mission (www.lifeline.org) has served in Haiti for over 25 years, establishing Christian schools, churches, and medical clinics. Lifeline’s founders, Bob and Gretchen DeVoe, have close ties with Tree of Life, having enrolled their children here long ago. The mission’s USA office is in Westerville, providing us opportunities over the years to join them in helping God’s people in Haiti.
Between now and Valentine’s Day, we are encouraging Tree families to give:
- Jars of peanut butter (please tape a quarter on the top of each jar to help with shipping costs.)
- Powdered Infant Formula (please tape a quarter on the top of each jar to help with shipping costs.)
- Monetary donations. Ministry support is crucial for meeting many needs in this time of crisis. The shipping costs for each container of supplies sent to Haiti are $8,000. Any checks should be made payable to Lifeline Christian Mission.
These gifts are tax-deductable and Lifeline is a member of ECFA. Parents, may we encourage you to have your child(ren) also give out of their own resources. Coins are welcome!
Donations may be brought to any of the Tree of Life branches. Thank you for being vessels of the hope of Jesus!
AOL/Upper Arlington update
1/20/2010, Megan Peters
Tree of Life is blessed to have such devoted supporters. Many of you have been asking about our journey to relocate our school to the Time Warner/AOL building on Henderson Road.
We have filed for a Conditional Use Permit – a permit that would allow us to move forward with the purchase and the move. The City of Upper Arlington has indicated concern about this process. So, our attorneys are taking the issue directly before the UA Board of Zoning and Planning (BZAP).
That meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 16. But, it is not the kind of hearing where we need all our supporters to be present to advocate on Tree’s behalf. It is strictly a technical matter.
We’ll report on the results of that meeting and keep you informed on when we need your presence for support. We’re thinking it will be in March.
In the meantime, please continue to hold this process in prayer. We continue to trust the Lord in this matter. He has led us to wise counselors and is establishing many new friendships for Tree during this time of waiting. We worship and work as we wait patiently upon the Lord. Our fund raising efforts, financing plans, architect’s renderings and search for the right construction manager continue in the meantime.
We have published a prayer calendar which is being sent to you via email if you are a Tree family or prayer partner. If you have not received the calendar for January, then please email Jasmine Steiner
