Every other week the student body comes together in a time of worship, Bible study, and quiet reflection. Whether it’s special music, testimonials, or guest speakers, students look forward to this break from the routine to bring honor to God. One week out of each school year is designated as Spiritual Emphasis Week. During this week, chapel is held everyday while students grow closer together and closer to God.

In his essay “First and Second Things”, C.S. Lewis wrote “You can’t get second things by putting them first; you can second things only by putting first things first.” At the staff, student, and parents levels, what are our priorities in life? What “things” are we placing first in our lives? As I reflected on this thought over the summer with the school theme in mind, “In Christ’s love; No Condemnation, No Separation” (Rom. 8) I couldn’t help but think of how important my relationship with Christ is. Throughout the seasons of my life Christ has become more and more of a priority and I have a greater desire to make Him known in all that I do, say and live.
So, as we begin another school year, our middle and high school students have been challenged to put first things first in their lives. I am encouraged by the testimonies I’ve heard from some of our students who, over the summer, saw the importance of placing Christ in more prioritized place in their lives, and I am praying that He might be more prominent in our student body this year. We are off to a good start and I look forward to what God has in store for our students this year.
